We do a lot of community missions throughout the year, here is a partial listing:
Slater Food Pantry
Our community food pantry, located at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church opens weekly on Tuesday mornings from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 7p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday nights. Have food to donate? Stop by the church & we'll take whatever you have to share.
Here are some examples:
Shelf Stable items including but not limited to: Peanut butter, cereal, ramen noodles, instant oatmeal
Kitchen Staples including but not limited to:
flour, sugar, pancake mix, vegetable oil, ketchup & mustard, salt & pepper, pancake syrup, canned goods, ravioli, ready-to-eat soups, tuna
Personal Hygiene Products including but not limited to: Toilet paper, soap, shampoo, laundry soap, dish soap, feminine hygiene products
Ballard Clothing and Food Pantry
Located at 602 N Main, is a free service in Huxley, where you can donate items or you can shop for items and food free of charge! Hours of operation are Wednesdays 5 to 7, Saturdays 10 to 12 and Sunday 1-3. Food pantry open last hour of each day. They are currently accepting Summer clothing items. If you wish to donate, and can't get to Huxley, you can bring your items by the church and we will take them over. The Slater UMC volunteers to staff the Ballard Pantry every July.
Collecting Beverages & Canned Food Pop Tabs
We collect all metal pop and canned food pop tabs for the the Ronald McDonald House for Kids in Des Moines. If you need a container to collect your tabs, some are available at the church.
